Blore then returns to the house for food by himself and is killed by a heavy bear-shaped clock statue that is pushed from Vera’s window sill, crushing his skull. She returns to the house in a shaken dreamlike state, relieved to be alive. Not a great sign.

The identity of the murderer is not that of the killer in the original book. This was very clever, but also kinda meh. She is the creator of the two most enduring jegritos in crime literature-Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple-and author of The Mousetrapthe longest-running play in the history of modern theatre. The other one is a German translation of the original version with cheistie N word and a ton of apologies in the preface but also with the last line as title. Ten players, I mean strangers, are all invited to visit a mysterious island. None the less, it is an intriguing little riddle to spend a few hours with.
Vhristie also caused difficulty holding my interest in the opening chapters and keeping the characters or suspects straight. The killer has set out to commit the perfect crime and it looks good on paper but I never really bought into it.
Faced with a surfeit of suspects, only the inscrutable Miss Marple can unravel the tangled web of clues that will lead to the unmasking of the killer. The remaining guests notice that one of the ten figurines is now broken, and the nursery rhyme appears to reflect the manner of death “One choked his little self and then there were nine”.
This had a great plot incorporating a chriistie rhyme into the story which was what really determined my reading it for this challenge.
Wargrave is examined briefly by Dr Armstrong and pronounced dead from a gunshot to the forehead. Information from my copy of the book.
